Imdevimab

Imdevimab is a monoclonal antibody (mAb) used to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. It is a recombinant, human IgG1κ mAb that binds to interleukin (IL)-17A, a cytokine that has been identified as a major driver of plaque psoriasis. Imdevimab works by blocking the activity of IL-17A, thus reducing inflammation and the symptoms of psoriasis. Imdevimab is approved for use in adults who have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy, and who have failed to respond or have been intolerant to other systemic therapies.

Imdevimab is a monoclonal antibody (mAb) that targets the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19. Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-made proteins that are designed to mimic the immune system's ability to fight off specific antigens, such as a virus.

Imdevimab is not used alone to treat COVID-19. Instead, it is combined with another monoclonal antibody called casirivimab to form a drug called REGEN-COV. REGEN-COV is given by intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection.

REGEN-COV is authorized for emergency use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults and children (12 years of age and older) who weigh at least 40 kg (88 pounds) and who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19, hospitalization, or death.

Here are some additional things to know about Imdevimab:

  • REGEN-COV is not authorized for use in people who are hospitalized due to COVID-19 or who require oxygen therapy due to COVID-19.
  • REGEN-COV is not a substitute for vaccination against COVID-19.
  • The most common side effects of REGEN-COV include headache, nausea, fatigue, fever, chills, and dizziness.

It is important to speak with a healthcare professional to determine if REGEN-COV is right for you.
