Hiccup
Hiccups are a type of involuntary muscle spasm that cause a repeated "hic" sound. They typically last for a few minutes, but can last for days or weeks in extreme cases. Hiccups are caused by a sudden and involuntary contraction of the diaphragm, which is the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. This sudden contraction causes the glottis to close, resulting in a "hic" sound. Hiccups are a common occurrence, and are usually not a cause for concern. However, if the hiccups are persistent and last for more than 48 hours, it is important to seek medical attention as this may indicate an underlying medical condition. Chronic hiccups can be caused by a range of medical conditions, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stroke, brain tumor, or other neurological disorders. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause.
