Scrofula
Scrofula is a chronic and contagious form of tuberculosis that mainly affects the lymph nodes. It is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and is most commonly seen in children. The most common symptom of Scrofula is swollen lymph nodes in the neck, although it can also occur in other parts of the body. The lymph nodes may be painful and tender to the touch, and may become ulcerated as the condition progresses. Other symptoms that can occur include fever, night sweats, fatigue, and weight loss. Scrofula is usually treated with antibiotics, although in some cases surgery may be necessary. It is important to note that while the condition is contagious, it is not considered to be highly contagious. Treatment typically results in a full recovery, although some individuals may experience long-term complications.
