Inflammation

Inflammation is a complex biological response of the body to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. Inflammation is the body's way of signaling to the immune system that it needs to eliminate the source of the harmful stimuli and to begin the healing process. In response, the immune system releases chemicals, such as histamines and cytokines, that cause redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the affected area as well as other symptoms, such as fever. Inflammation is a key part of the body's healing process, as it helps to eliminate the cause of the harm and to repair the tissue that has been damaged.
