Whitlow

Whitlow is a bacterial infection of the skin that affects the fingers and toes. It is caused by a virus, usually the herpes simplex virus, and is characterized by swelling, redness, and pain in the affected area. The infection can spread to the adjacent skin, resulting in the development of blisters and ulcers. Whitlow can be very painful and is usually treated with antibiotics. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary. Prevention of whitlow includes avoiding contact with individuals who have active infections, proper hygiene, and avoiding contact with contaminated items.
