Antisialagogue
An antisialagogue is a medicinal agent that is used to reduce the production of saliva. It is typically used to treat conditions such as drooling, excessive salivation, or facial nerve paralysis. The most common type of antisialagogue is an anticholinergic drug, which works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter found in the salivary glands. Antisialagogues can also be used to reduce the amount of saliva produced after an oral surgical procedure, such as tooth extraction. In addition to reducing salivation, antisialagogues can also help to reduce or prevent nausea and vomiting.
