Ethnopharmacology use

  • Fruits extensively used in digestive and other disorders, are a rich source of vitamin C. 
  • Fruit eaten raw or cooked is cooling, astringent, diuretic, refreshing and laxative. 
  • Effective in treatment of respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis. 
  • Fresh juice or dry powder of the fruit is used in diseases of heart, eye, rheunatism, scurvy, ageing and in diarrhoea, dysentery. 
  • Decoction of fruit shows hypoglycemic activity. 
  • Used also as hair tonic to prevent graying of hair and pigmentation. 
  • Leaves used to treat eye disease and chronic dysentery. 
  • Seeds used in treatment of asthma, bronchitis and to cure leucorrhoea and syphilis. 
  • "Triphala" and " Chavanprash" are prepared from the fruit. 
  • Flowers cooling and root bark astringent.

1. Prameha (Diabetes) : Intake of 25ml Amalaki juice added with 3 gms of turmeric powder twice a day before food is useful in prameha, (urinary disorders including Diabetes).

2. Rejuvenation: Regular intake of amalaki fruits is recommended for rejuvenation. It retains vitality, increases life span, youthfulness, and resistance power.

3. Eye diseases: 3 gms of Triphala churna (amalaki, haritaki and vibhitaki, along with honey and ghee is used internally in early morning on empty stomach, beneficial for Eye diseases.

4. Laxative: 10-15 gms of Triphala Powder (amalaki, haritaki and) is used internally with hot water after food at night.

5. Grey hair: External application of the paste of 50gms henna leaves, 50gms amalaki, 10 Hibiscus flowers over the scalp and hairs, keep it for 1hour before taking head bath once or twice a week is beneficial in premature greying hair.

6. Amlapitta (Acid peptic disorders): Equal quantity of Amalaki fruits, shatavari root,sugar made into ne powder. Taking 5 gms of this mixture along with ghee and honey in early morning on empty stomach for 40 days is beneficial.
